I have advised local authorities since 2002, with a particular focus on major projects in the Auckland region. Much of my work has centred on significant urban renewal initiatives. This has included advising Auckland City Council on the sale of its pensioner housing portfolio and on proposals to acquire a 50% interest in Wynyard Quarter. I was also part of the legal advisory team involved in the Auckland local authority reorganisation, contributing to the establishment of the Auckland Waterfront Development Agency and Regional Facilities Auckland.
Over the last 15 years, I have become one of the leading advisors on Auckland’s urban renewal projects. These developments are long-term and highly collaborative, requiring a different style of negotiation and a more bespoke approach to drafting project agreements. I have helped deliver successful outcomes on projects at Britomart, CAB, Takapuna, Henderson, and Wynyard Quarter. I am also the only lawyer to have advised on all of Auckland’s over-station development projects, including the flagship CRL station, Te Waihorotiu.
